Class of 2023
"To further explore my interest in global health, I spent the summer between my first and second year of med school volunteering with a GW-affiliated non-profit in a small village in Mukono, Uganda. There, I found myself growingly interested in the psychological aspect of suffering worldwide. With this new interest, I decided to take a research year to further explore and work on projects in the field of global mental health. In my research year, I worked with GW psychiatrist Dr.Kohrt on a project in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) called Ensuring Quality and Psychological Support (EQUIP). With the shortage of mental health specialists worldwide, EQUIP aims to train non-specialists in mental health while ensuring the delivery of quality care. Being part of the Medical Education Track and having a passion for global health, I was thrilled to find an opportunity to work not only in a novel and growing field of global mental health but particularly in my interest in developing sustainable solutions through medical education. GW attracts top leaders in many fields, and I chose to come to GW for exactly the opportunities like this."
