International MD Program

Med student taking a patient's blood pressure in Haiti

GW can only accept U.S. citizens, Canadian citizens, and U.S. permanent residents into the regular four-year MD program, so we have developed the International MD program, specifically designed to prepare international students for medical practice and leadership in their home countries. Applicants must be financially sponsored by their government or a medical institution in their home country, and must matriculate from a U.S. or Canadian undergraduate school.

Travel with a Purpose

Each year, GW medical students travel abroad to care for underserved communities around the globe. Students see approximately 1,000 Haitian patients annually in schools, churches, or simple wooden shacks, supplementing the work of a Haitian health care NGO.
