As always, we encourage everyone to take precautions to stay well and to keep others safe.
Please stay home if you feel sick and be sure to test for COVID-19. If you test negative for COVID but feel unwell from other illnesses, please be sure to wear a mask.
Regarding COVID, all MD students are considered health care professionals, therefore we follow the CDC COVID Guidelines for health care workers.
The CDC link to the guidelines is included here for convenience, and a summary is below:
If you do test positive for COVID (if your first test is negative, test again 48 hours later), the following applies to all MD students:
You may return to class/clinical work if:
- Seven (7) days should have passed since onset of symptoms (or since a positive test if asymptomatic) before returning to class/clinical work. In addition, no fever for 24 hours and symptoms improving, AND a negative test within 48 hours of returning to class/clinical work.
- Ten (10) days of isolation applies if no negative test is obtained or if you still test positive on day 5-7,
- Sooner than 7 days if you have 2 negative tests done at least 48 hours apart, with improved symptoms and no fever for 24 hours.
Please note that if you are working at a clinical site or physician office, it is important to check with them as to their specific criteria for return.
