Welcome to Health Sciences!
The information below applies to new full-time faculty. Adjunct faculty should contact the Assistant Director for Academic & Faculty Services for instructions for completing required hiring and tax documents. Adjunct faculty will be contacted with orientation information.
If you attend the GW New Employee Orientation (described below) within your first 3 days of work, you will complete your I-9, W4, state tax form and direct deposit form during the session. Bring the required documents for the I-9 form (proving identity and employment eligibility) to orientation and be prepared to complete your tax and direct deposit forms.
GW Human Resources has a helpful online guide for new employees which covers, among other things, obtaining your ID, email, and payroll account. The guide breaks down the steps into a timeline so you know what you should do before you begin working, on your first day and within the first month.
GW New Employee Orientation is a weekly orientation breakfast held for all new employees, including new faculty. The orientation provides an opportunity to learn about GW, the community, and employee benefits. Please plan to attend the first Monday of your employment.
Our Mission and Vision statement outlines the five pillars that guide our growth: Interdisciplinary Education, Clinical Training, Community Service Learning, Scholarship, and Leadership.
Faculty will find the New Faculty Checklist helpful in locating individuals who are knowledgeable about specific topics and willing to orient you. Feel free to contact them using the information provided.

Tenure, Promotion and Scholarship
The Office of Faculty Affairs is the primary contact and resource for planning and working toward your advancement and research goals, including the annual reporting, promotion, and tenure processes. All faculty are required to complete an electronic annual report describing their teaching, research, community, and institutional service. The Office of Faculty Affairs will also help you plan your academic career and discuss faculty resources and responsibilities. Tenure information including forms, examples, and documents will be provided by her office.
There are an array of teaching resources to help with technology, instructional design and further developing teaching skills. Blackboard training with the Institutional Technology Lab and familiarity with the Health Sciences SMART lab are good starting points.
Of the various scholarship resources, new faculty will be most interested in immediately becoming familiar with The Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library.
