GW Staff Council Representatives for SMHS

The SMHS Staff (Council) Representatives are responsible for serving the interests and needs of the SMHS staff, which are not covered by the collective bargaining agreement, pertaining to their daily activities and work conditions as they strive to support the university’s goal of providing quality education.  The SMHS Staff (Council) Representatives hosts a quarterly assembly series designed to provide a forum for sharing upcoming SMHS staff initiatives, addressing SMHS and GW policy-related questions and recommendations, fostering innovative ideas, and reinforcing SMHS’s collective commitment to a supportive, innovative, and high-performing professional environment.

2026 Priorities

Priority 1: Encourage a shared-governance approach—actively including adequate staff representation and participation—in the development of SMHS policies that align with and support the SMHS and GW strategic frameworks in regular meetings.

Priority 2: Ensure SMHS policies, initiatives, and operations align with our three shared cultural values for staff, including:

  • Accessible wellness programs
  • An inclusive and equitable workplace
  • A welcoming and supportive environment

Priority 3: Promote policies that reduce barriers to professional growth of staff and ensure staff expertise and experiences are valued, included, and recognized in the success of SMHS programs
