GW Staff Council Representatives for SMHS

The SMHS Staff Council Representatives advocate for the interests and needs of SMHS staff not covered by a collective bargaining agreement, particularly those affecting daily responsibilities and working conditions, in support of the University’s mission to deliver high-quality education. This commitment is advanced through a quarterly assembly series that provides a forum for addressing GW and/or SMHS-related policy questions and recommendations, while reinforcing SMHS’s shared dedication to a supportive, innovative, and high-performing professional environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • provide a forum for hearing and reviewing concerns and interests of SMHS staff not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • provide feedback to SMHS Dean and GW administration regarding proposed actions, programs, policies, and procedures that will affect staff not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • be the voice of SMHS staff by initiating suggestions to improve university staff relations and bringing ideas that originate from within the staff to the attention of the GW Staff Council.
  • act intentionally to promote GW’s educational community as an efficient, fulfilling, and attractive environment for employment.
  • Facilitate and collaborate on programming and professional development opportunities that create spaces to build a strong GW staff community and support advancement for all benefits-eligible staff not covered by collective bargaining agreements.
