MD Program Interviewee Information

Please review these FAQs in advance of your interview day. If you have questions, contact us at medinter@gwu.edu

We look forward to meeting you and learning more about your passion for medicine and interest in our MD Program.

Pre-Interview FAQs:

How do I reschedule my interview?
If you need to reschedule, please e-mail medinter@gwu.edu, providing two or three preferred alternative dates. Our interviews are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (August-December) or Thursdays and Fridays (January-March). Please email to reschedule your interview ASAP, so we can make every effort to offer you the best alternative date.

How do I best travel to campus?
If traveling from a distance, please see our visiting campus page for full information on area airports, rail stations, and driving directions. As parking is extremely limited on campus, we strongly recommend taking the metro, which is generally the easiest way to get to Ross Hall. Our building is only steps away from the Foggy Bottom – GWU metro stop. Visit the metro website for more information.

Our address is: Ross Hall, 2300 I Street NW, Washington, DC 20037. Please note that visitor parking does require a fee and is limited on campus. General directions and parking rates can be found on the visiting campus page.

Where should I plan to stay?
There are many hotels nearby. Please visit the visiting campus page for a full list of hotels in the area which offer discounts to those visiting GW.

We do offer a student host program which may cover a single night stay with a current medical student. This is a student-run service and is subject to student availability. If you are interested in this program, please reply to your interview invitation to inquire.

What should I do once I arrive and how do I check in?
Ross Hall is located at the corner of 23rd and I Streets, adjacent to the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. Enter Ross Hall from the courtyard side of the building across from GWU Hospital, and present a valid photo ID to be signed-in. Once you have signed-in with the guard, you will be directed to a waiting area. Admissions staff will escort you closer to 9:15 a.m.

I have a dietary restriction. Can you accommodate me?
We will have vegetarian lunches available each day, so there is no need to request a vegetarian meal. If you need a gluten-free, lactose-free, or vegan meal, please email medinter@gwu.edu with your requirements and your scheduled interview date; we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Please note that we are unable to offer certified Kosher or Halal meals.

What should I expect during the interview day?
The interview day typically runs from 9:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The day includes a tour of Ross Hall, presentations about our curriculum and opportunities, and a catered lunch with current medical students. You will be interviewed by one student and one faculty member, and each interview typically lasts 25 minutes.

Interviews are blind, meaning that your interviewers will not be familiar with your application file. We do not provide information about your interviewers prior to your interview day.

Is there a place to store my luggage during the interview day?
Yes, we will have a secure place to store your luggage or other personal items.

I want to catch a flight shortly after my interviews. Can you arrange for my interviews to end early?
If you provide advance notice to medinter@gwu.edu, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule needs. However, last-minute schedule changes can occur and we cannot guarantee you will be able to leave before 3:00 p.m.

What happens in the event of inclement weather or other university closures?
In cases of inclement weather or other schedule changes, we will contact you as early as possible to notify you of the change. If the University is closed, we will reschedule your interview for the earliest date possible, and we will note on your file that your interview was rescheduled due to weather; this will not negatively impact the review of your application.

Help us help others:

Our office is partnering with the Comprehensive Medical Mentoring Program's THINK campaign to provide basic essentials to those who are less fortunate; we are collecting voluntary donations of unused hotel toiletry items, which will be distributed to local homeless shelters. Look for the collection box on your Interview Day. We thank you in advance for your support!

Pre-Interview FAQs:

When will I be notified with the Committee on Admissions' decision?
We send all decisions to your preferred email address on file with AMCAS. Unfortunately, we cannot give you an exact timeline for the review and decision process. We sincerely appreciate your patience while the Committee judiciously reviews each file.

Can I call the office to check on the decision regarding my application?
Due to confidentiality policies, we cannot provide any status updates or decisions over the phone or provide an estimate of when a decision will be made. You can check the Application Portal at any time; however, please note that your decision email will arrive in advance of a change to your portal status.

I would like the contact information for my student or faculty interviewers. How can I get this information?
Per confidentiality policies, we do not release any information other than the names of your interviewers. If an interviewer shares their contact information with you, feel free to contact them. Please note that interviewers cannot discuss their evaluation of your interview or any aspect of your application with you.

You may email thank you notes for interviewers to medinter@gwu.edu, or you may send mail to our office at:

I would like to send an update after my interview. Is this possible?
We welcome updates throughout the application cycle, including after your interview. Please send them through the Application Portal, and your file will be updated immediately. Please DO NOT send official transcripts to the Office of Admissions unless requested to do so. However, please DO self-report any new grades or provide an unofficial transcript through the Portal.

Does the Committee require any additional information from me?
Please be aware that the Office of Admissions may request further information from you throughout the review process. These routine requests may be for updated grades, updates on your activities, etc. You will be contacted by email if the Committee requests any additional information.
