GW SMHS supports faculty scholars in their career development, and encourages the formation of faculty mentoring committees for junior investigators to facilitate their research and scholarship. Investigators complete self-assessments of current strengths and gaps and develop a plan to describe steps to achieve their career goals in academic medicine. Formal mentoring committees for tenure-stream faculty often include three faculty, with one outside the home department and a member of the departmental APT, who agree to meet twice a year to review progress with research group management, research advances, research funding, and other key areas before mid-tenure review. Clinician investigators also benefit from a three-member team who focus on building scholarship, clinical trial participation, or health services research related to the specialty.
