Beaumont Research Honors Society
The Beaumont Research Honors Society welcomes GW medical students interested in research. Established at GW in 1935 and named after William Beaumont, a pioneer in physiologic investigation, the Society’s objectives are to stimulate interest and further enhance biomedical research. Today, the Society plays an important role in informing medical students about potential research opportunities at GW, Children’s, the NIH and at institutions around the country.
Major activities include:

Meetings
The Beaumont Research Honor Society is a recognized student group, and plans meetings to share research experiences, hear from others, and form a supportive research community.
Fusion Magazine
Fusion is SMHS’s annual medical student research journal, edited by the Beaumont Society, that provides a forum to share research done by GW SMHS medical students with the larger research community. Fusion is released at GW Research Day in April. Electronic issues are archived here.

Research Showcase Participation and Beaumont Prizes
GW SMHS Research Showcase is a live, in-person event featuring poster sessions, a distinguished plenary lecture, and selected student oral presentations. Typically held in April, the Showcase represents a broad range of research interests including basic and translational science, clinical research, clinical public health and medical education research. The showcase provides numerous opportunities for student prizes, including Best Abstract and Best Poster awards, The William Beaumont Research Award cash-prizes, the Glew and Speck prizes, and the opportunity to give an oral presentation at Research Day.
