Beaumont Research Honors Society

Beaumont Society

The Beaumont Research Honors Society welcomes GW medical students interested in research. Established at GW in 1935 and named after William Beaumont, a pioneer in physiologic investigation, the Society’s objectives are to stimulate interest and further enhance biomedical research. Today the Society plays an important role in informing medical students about potential research opportunities at GW, Children’s, the NIH and at institutions around the country.

The Beaumont Society invites GW medical students to participate in activities, including:

Student Research Opportunities

Potential research mentors and collaborators can be identified using the GW Faculty Researcher Database. Find researchers nationwide with NIH Reporter. Meet with the Associate Dean for Research Workforce Development, Dr. Hall, to discuss opportunities. Contact her at akhall@gwu.edu.

Student Research Funding

Fellowships are available to support summer, year-out or other medical student research activities. Review the W.T. Gill Jr. Summer Research Fellowship and the Health Services Research Fellowships

Clinical and Translational Research Scholarly Concentration

The Scholarly Concentration in Clinical and Translational Research offers a longitudinal, in-depth research opportunity for GW medical students to explore new research areas, form new mentors, reinforce research skills, and build new research competencies.

Fusion magazine

Fusion is GW’s annual medical student research journal. Fusion provides a forum to share research done by GW medical students with the larger research community. Submissions may focus on clinical, basic science, medical education and public health research. Fusion is released at GW Research Day in April.

Beaumont Fellow Scholarships at Research Day

From Fusion submissions, up to three students are selected to receive The William Beaumont Research Award cash-prizes, and the opportunity to give an oral presentation at Research Day.

Meetings

The Beaumont Research Honor Society is a recognized student group, and plans meetings to share research experiences, hear from others, and form a supportive research community. Explore research lectures offered in GW Grand Rounds.
