Limited Service Faculty

This section contains information for limited service faculty -- Part-time or Voluntary (adjuncts and clinicals) on appointments, reappointments, promotion, and non-reappointment.  You will also be able to find information regarding limited-service faculty benefits.  As a limited-service faculty, there are certain procedures to follow.

Reappointments

Every fiscal year (April) the Office of Faculty Affairs will generate reappointment letters based on the information we received from each academic department.  Each department will submit a roster of names to our office for faculty who they wish to reappointment and continue their contribution to our educational and professional programs with the approval of the department chair.

Promotion

In order to be considered for a promotion recommendation, the following documents are required:

If active limited service faculty with a current appointment in more than one department is being recommended for promotion in those departments, the concurrence of all department chairs involved is required in advance of submission, in order for any of these recommendations to be considered.

Non-Reappointment

If a department decides your contribution and services to the universities educational and professional programs are no longer needed, the departments are required to submit the following documentation to Faculty Affairs:

  • A formal memorandum from the department chair addressed to the Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • A copy of the letter sent to the faculty member advising them of this change in status

Limited Service Faculty Benefits

As a limited service faculty member, you are eligible to receive some forms of benefits:

  • Receive a GWU University email address (gwu.edu)
  • Receive a GWorld ID card which will allow access to Himmelfarb Library and the University’s Gelman Library
  • Eligible to receive access to Himmelfarb Library on-line journals
  • Eligible to attend and participate in all faculty development programs presented by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • Participate in any of the programs offered through Himmelfarb Library
  • With valid GWorld ID card, eligible for discounts at the GWU Bookstore -- discounts offered to Faculty/Staff (varies based on the item purchased) (University Student Center, 800 21st Street, NW)
  • GWorld ID card can be used at areas retailers as a form of payment so you don’t have to carry cash (no discount attached)
  • Eligible to participate in the meetings/conferences/programs presented by the Office of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (202-994-4285).  There may be a fee charged for some activities
