The Standing Committees of the Faculty Assembly carry out the work of the Faculty to enhance the education, research, and service missions of the School.
The membership composition, duties, and jurisdiction of each Standing Committee are dictated by the SMHS Bylaws.

Committee on MD Program Admissions (MDPA)
The Committee on MD Program Admissions shall be responsible for making decisions regarding accepting students into the MD program and shall recommend changes to the rules and standards for the selection and admission of students to the Executive Committee.
The MDPA meets twice per month (typically 1–2 hours per meeting). There is an annual retreat where all procedures/policies are discussed. In addition, members are expected to participate in applicant interviews at least twice per month during the admissions cycle. Committee members also review multiple applicant files on a rolling basis throughout the cycle, which requires ongoing preparation outside of scheduled meetings. The file review volume varies by time of year but generally involves consistent engagement to ensure timely and holistic application evaluation.

Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (APT)
The APT Committee shall be responsible for reviewing and recommending, for the Dean’s approval, faculty appointments or promotions in the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor, in both tenure and non-tenure accruing appointments. The APT Committee shall also review specific and special cases referred by the Dean and shall review the SMHS “Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure” for approval by the Dean and the Faculty Assembly.
The APT Committee reviews appointments at the associate and full professor levels for all tracks throughout the year. They meet every Monday from 5 to 7 pm in the winter to review promotion and tenure cases.

Committee on Health Sciences Curricula (HSC)
The Committee on Health Sciences Curricula shall advise the Dean and provide oversight regarding matters pertaining to the program and curricular development within the Health Sciences Program. This committee shall consider all matters of undergraduate and graduate health sciences education, including new program and course proposals, major changes in existing programs and courses, and other matters significantly affecting the curriculum.
The Health Sciences Curriculum Committee reviews all course revisions, new courses, new programs, and program revisions for the Health Sciences. The overall time commitment of committee members varies based on the number of documents and requests received, averaging 1–4 hours per month in addition to the monthly meeting. Meetings last 2 hours and occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 pm EST.

Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum (CUMEC)
The CUMEC shall advise the Dean and provide oversight on the establishment and review of the goals, objectives, and evaluation of the undergraduate medical education program.

Committee on Health Sciences Student Evaluation
In accordance with the Student Handbook for Health Sciences Program, the Committee on Health Sciences Student Evaluation shall serve as the principal body to evaluate, advise, and provide oversight for matters pertaining to the academic and professional performance of students in the health sciences.

Committee on Research
The Committee on Research shall develop policies and procedures to foster and promote research; serve as an advisory body to the Dean of SMHS on the allocation of fiscal and other resources in support of research; receive and review applications for intramural research support; and recommend faculty for awards recognizing outstanding research activities.
The Research Committee has monthly 1-hour meetings and is occasionally asked to review center or student research projects, for a total of approximately 2–3 hours per month.

Committee on Masters and Doctorate Graduate Programs
The Committee on Masters and Doctorate Graduate Programs shall make recommendations pertaining to the masters and doctorate degree programs and their integration with other health programs and schools. It shall also serve as the liaison between SMHS and other graduate and non-graduate programs.
Committee on the Learning Environment
The Committee on the Learning Environment (CLE) shall advise the Dean and provide oversight of the learning environment for students and residents at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The CLE meets monthly on the 4th Thursday from 7:30-9 am. It is important that committee members attend meetings, as this is where the bulk of the discussions take place. The time commitment outside of committee meetings is fairly limited, unless the member volunteers for a special project, which occasionally happens.

Committee on Conflicts
The SMHS Committee on Conflicts is advisory to the dean on matters related to real or potential conflicts of interest involving the School of Medicine and Health Sciences' academic administrators, faculty, residents, and students.

Committee on Medical Student Evaluation (MSEC)
In accordance with the Regulations for MD Candidates, the MSEC shall provide oversight on all matters related to the evaluation and advancement for promotion for the graduation of medical students. The MSEC will be responsible for evaluating students referred by the Dean’s office for academic difficulties, and allegations of honor code violations and/or issues of professional comportment. The MSEC will review and, as necessary, recommend revisions to the Regulations for MD Candidates to the Executive Committee.
