Infection Control Today - Study Finds That Apoptosis Triggers Replication of Common Viruses

Steven Zeichner, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pediatrics and microbiology, immunology, and tropical medicine, was quoted in Infection Control Today discussing his recently published research finding that an alternate, "escape" replication process triggered by apoptosis—the process of cell death or "cell suicide"—appears to be common in human herpes viruses.
