The GW Medical Enterprise Begins Drive-Through Testing for COVID-19

WASHINGTON, DC (April 3, 2020) – The GW Medical Enterprise will begin drive-through testing on Monday, April 6, 2020. Testing will only be conducted by appointment, after a physician has spoken with the patient and has deemed a test is appropriate. This initiative is GW’s response in partnership with the District based on city-wide need.

The testing site is being set up as an important step toward identifying who has the virus and stopping the virus in the Washington, D.C., area. Through this drive-through testing, GW is providing a more accessible and convenient method of testing for those who think they might have or have been exposed to, the coronavirus or COVID-19, thus enabling individuals and their physicians to determine if they need to seek the appropriate medical care or self-quarantine in their homes.

“As the COVID-19 health care crisis continues to evolve, we are committed to offering critical resources, such as this drive-through testing, for our community. As we navigate the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to remind the D.C. metropolitan community that GW MFA doctors and health care providers are working hard to provide care and support them during this time,” said Barbara L. Bass, MD, CEO of the GW Medical Faculty Associates, dean of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and vice president for health affairs at GW.

“GW Hospital is proud to be a pillar of healthcare in the D.C. region and we are committed to caring for our community during this pivotal and unprecedented time,” says Kimberly Russo, CEO of GW Hospital. “Offering this additional option for testing in the city further expands this important service to better meet the needs of the community and ensure that individuals are able to access care in the most appropriate setting for them.”

To schedule a (video or phone) consultation with a GW physician to be evaluated, please contact (202) 741-2765 Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM. Or, a person’s regular physician can follow GW's testing instructions to get patients a referral for testing.
