D. Robert Dufour, MD, Selected for Lifetime Achievement Award

Congratulations to D. Robert Dufour, MD, Professor Emeritus of Pathology at the George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences, on receiving the 2018 Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC).

As a global scientific and medical professional organization dedicated to clinical laboratory science and its application to health care, the AACC selects awardees who have made outstanding contributions in all aspects of clinical chemistry, particularly in service, education, and research. Recipients also have achieved international stature and reputation by virtue of their efforts and have demonstrated longstanding service to the association.

Over the course of his career, Dufour was responsible for training pathology and internal medicine residents, endocrine fellows, and medical students in clinical chemistry. He has been an active member of the AACC since 1984, serving as a member of the Continuing Education Committee from 1992 to 1996, and as chair of the committee for three years. He also served as chair for the Continuing Medical Education Advisory Committee for four years after being involved in the AACC’s application to become a continuing medical education provider. Dufour currently chairs the Training Course Committee at AACC and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry’s Education and Scientific Affairs Committee.

While at GW, Dufour was selected as Medical School Basic Science Faculty of the Year and as Pathology Department Faculty of the Year.

“I commend this year's award recipients for the tremendous impact they've made on clinical laboratory testing and healthcare,” said AACC President Dennis Dietzen in a Press Releases from the organization. “Through cutting-edge research, excellence in clinical care, and a commitment to service and education, these individuals are strengthening the ability of laboratory experts to provide the crucial insights that enable optimal delivery of patient care.”

Dufour will be recognized for this honor along with a number of other award recipients during the opening plenary session of the 70th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo at McCormick Place Chicago on Sunday, July 29.
