Three SMHS Office of Communications and Marketing-Produced Publications Receive 2015 MarCom Awards

Three publications produced in the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) Office of Communications and Marketing recently received high honors, including platinum and gold prizes, in the 2015 MarCom Awards.

Neurotransmitter, a joint publication highlighting the neurology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery interests of SMHS research institutes and GW clinical partners — George Washington Institute for Neurosciences (GWIN); the George Washington University Hospital’s Neurological Institute; and the GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) — received a platinum award. Medicine + Health, the official SMHS biannual magazine showcasing the research and clinical expertise of the SMHS faculty, residents, students, and alumni, earned a gold. And Cuentos, the humanities magazine produced annually by the internal medicine residents at SMHS and the GW MFA, received an honorable mention.

The industry awards competition, sponsored by the Association for Marketing and Communication Professionals, is a creative competition for any individual or company involved in the concept, writing, and design of print, visual, audio, and web materials. Entrants ranged from freelancers and small design shops, to educational and nonprofit institutions, to major media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.

This year there were more than 6,500 entries from all 50 states, Canada, and 15 countries competing among 200 categories in seven forms of media and communication — marketing, publications, marketing/promotion, public service/pro bono, creativity, and electronic/interactive.
