GW’s Michael G. Knight, MD, MSHP, Appointed to American Medical Association Ethics Council

Congratulations to Michael G. Knight, MD, MSHP, who has added a new title to his roster: member of the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA). Only one physician is nominated to the nine-person council each year, and members serve seven-year terms. Knight was elected during the June 2022 meeting of the AMA House of Delegates in Chicago.

“I am excited to be serving in this new capacity for the AMA,” said Knight, associate chief quality and population health officer at the George Washington University (GW) Medical Faculty Associates and assistant professor of medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences. “As part of CEJA, I will uphold the integrity of our profession and ensure ethics remain at the forefront of patient care, particularly at a time when medical ethics and policy have reached a crossroads.”

CEJA, the AMA notes, has two primary functions: maintaining and updating the 175-year-old AMA Code of Medical Ethics and promoting compliance with the Code’s professional ethical standards. According to Knight, “CEJA’s opinions and policies are used around the world in ethical decision-making, medical licensing board determinations, and public policy. I am honored and humbled by this opportunity to positively impact our profession for years to come.”
