Congratulations to Andrew Choi, MD ’08, associate professor of medicine and of radiology at the George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and co-director of Cardiac CT and MRI at the GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA), who received the 2021 Distinguished Service Award, given by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Maryland Chapter.

“I’m honored to be a recipient of this recognition,” Choi said. “This award is a reflection of an outstanding team along with a commitment to improve cardiovascular care through the American College of Cardiology. I look forward to continuing to enhance heart health in Maryland, D.C., and throughout the mid-Atlantic.”

Choi received the award in part for his leadership of the ACC Mid-Atlantic Capital Cardiology Symposium. This year’s two-day virtual event was the highest attended in its history, with participants from more than 13 states and six countries. The meeting featured sessions on digital health/artificial intelligence, care disparities, a new app focusing on implicit bias, and 2021 international guidelines on the evaluation of chest pain.

Choi has been an ACC member since 2010 and involved with the educational symposium for a decade. In collaboration with the Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and District of Columbia chapters, Choi has led educational planning for the past four years, including two years for the fellows-in-training forum. The ACC Maryland and Mid-Atlantic Chapters support the aims of the 54,000-member ACC parent organization, which works to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health.
