Susan Kartiko, MD, PhD, FACS is a board-certified surgeon, surgical intensivist, neuro intensivist and an Associate Professor of Surgery at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Kartiko is an active member of several national organization including the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the Association of Academic Surgery and Society of Critical Care Medicine. She is also the current chair of the publication committee of the Chest Wall Injury Society.
Dr. Kartiko has also published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including topics in critical care, trauma surgery, rib related injuries and geriatric trauma. Her research is focused on projects related to healthcare delivery, outcome-based research, and patient centered outcomes. She mentors medical students, residents and fellows in surgery outcomes assessment using NSQIP, TQIP, and other databases. Dr. Kartiko continues to implement multiple initiatives at George Washington University such as a comprehensive Older Adult Fall Prevention program, In-hospital Alcohol Withdrawal treatment protocol, and PTSD mitigation in trauma patients. She is currently the associate program director of the George Washington Surgical Critical Care fellowship.
