Gerald Lazarus, M.D. ‘63, member of the George Washington University (GW) board of trustees and the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences Dean’s Council, has recently written a review on wound care treatments.
Lazarus, also a founder of the Johns Hopkins Wound Healing Center and professor of dermatology and medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, led a systematic review of 60 research papers focused on the treatment of skin ulcers, suggesting that most are so technically flawed that their results are unreliable. And even of those that pass muster, there is only weak evidence that some treatments work better than standard compression therapy or special stockings.
