GW SMHS Welcomes the Medicine Class of 2016

The GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences welcomes 177 new medical students. This select group of students was chosen out of 14,700 AMCAS applications, which is the largest number of applications GW SMHS has ever received. The average age of the class is 23, with an overall 3.7 GPA and a 30.4 MCAT score. The students represent 25 states, Canada and India – and 79 undergraduate schools.

The new class comes with diverse experiences, including working with the Peace Corps, doing internships at the NIH, working as EMTs and going on global health missions.

The Center for Faculty Excellence recently named six faculty members from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences as the newest cohort of members to the Academy of Education Scholars.
Daniel S. Carrero, MD, was officially installed as the inaugural Seymour and Ruth Perlin Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) during a ceremony Oct. 18 in the Jack Morton Auditorium at the George Washington University.
