The George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) recently moved up to 13th for online bachelor’s programs and 7th among bachelor’s programs for veterans on the 2024 Best Online Programs rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The GW SMHS programs were among 14 GW online degree programs recognized in this year’s U.S. News & World Report rankings.
“GW’s innovative online programs are a crucial element of our academic enterprise — they enable talented learners and leaders around the world to benefit from our transformational education,” Provost Christopher A. Bracey said in a statement following the announcement of this year’s rankings. “Our positive reputation and impressive performance in the rankings are a result of our commitment to academic excellence and continued ability to meet the needs of students and employers.”
GW’s online programs housed within the health sciences branch of the SMHS continue to receive high marks for engagement, faculty credentials and training, and services and technology. The online degree programs listed in the rankings were assessed based on factors such as graduation rate, indebtedness of new graduates, and academic and career support services offered to students. The school has offered online bachelor’s degree programs since the 1996-97 academic year.
GW SMHS has maintained longstanding relationship with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, collaborating to offer contract degree programs in a variety of health sciences fields to active-duty soldiers. Thousands of soldiers and sailors have participated in these programs over the years and successfully completed one or more degree programs.
Other highly ranked health sciences programs at GW SMHS include the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, which was tied for 29th (2024), and the Physician Assistant Studies Program, which ranked in the top five programs in the country (2023) in their most recent U.S. News polls.
