GW Professor William D. Gaillard Named Treasurer of American Epilepsy Society

William D. Gaillard, M.D., professor of neurology and pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, was elected treasurer of the American Epilepsy Society (AES) during the society’s 67th annual meeting at the Washington Convention Center.  Gaillard, who is also head of the Division of Neurophysiology, Epilepsy, and Critical Care Neurology at Children’s National Health System, joined the AES board in 2009. AES is the preeminent professional society for physicians and scientists concerned with the prevention, treatment, and research of epilepsy in the United States.

Gaillard is a practicing pediatric neurologist and scientist whose research focuses on the effects of childhood epilepsy on brain structure and function.  He has published more than 180 papers and book chapters with an emphasis on the use of imaging in the investigation of patients with epilepsy.

As an active participant in AES activities, Gaillard has served on the organization’s Council on Education, the Scientific Program, the Annual Meeting Committee, and as chair of the Clinical Investigator Workshop and Pediatric Content Committees.  He also serves as an associate editor for the journals Epilepsia and Epilepsy Research, and as a regular reviewer on AES and Epilepsy Foundation study sections.
