GW Division of Rheumatology to Take Part in American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting

Faculty at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) will take part in the American College of Rheumatology’s (ACR) 2019 Annual Meeting in November in Atlanta.

Chair of the meeting’s planning committee, Victoria Shanmugam, MD, director of the Division of Rheumatology and associate professor of medicine at SMHS, will be in attendance, along with former SMHS staff member and leadership coach Sara Melita, who has put together sessions for the conference to help attendees focus their priorities and identify strategies to prevent burnout.

The annual meeting will feature more than 450 sessions, providing many opportunities for professional development, networking, and first-hand access to research and clinical applications.

Speakers from SMHS include Shanmugam; Adam Kilian, MD, assistant professor of medicine; Saira Bilal, MD, assistant professor of medicine; and Marc Phillpotts, MD, assistant professor of medicine. According to ACR, about 16,000 rheumatologists, rheumatology health professionals, fellows-in-training, and exhibitors are expected to gather to attend the event to learn about new scientific advances, clinical issues, and professional development.

The annual meeting will be held from Nov. 8-13 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
