WASHINGTON (August 4, 2011)—The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society has announced that Dr. Alan G. Wasserman, chairman of the Department of Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, has been elected to the Board of Directors as a Councilor Director. Founded in 1902, Alpha Omega Alpha is the national medical honor society dedicated to recognizing high educational achievement, honoring gifted teaching, encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community, supporting the ideals of humanism, and promoting service to others.
Election to Alpha Omega Alpha is an honor signifying a lasting commitment to scholarship, leadership, professionalism, and service. A lifelong honor, membership in the society confers recognition for a physician's dedication to the profession and art of healing. The Board, of which Dr. Wasserman will join September, consists of members of the Society elected by the Board of Directors based on recommendations by the nominating committee and installed after election by the Board.
“Dr. Wasserman’s election to the Board of Directors at Alpha Omega Alpha is a testament to the high level of respect he has among his peers as a leader and committed medical professional. I know he will be a valuable addition to the Board and will help guide the organization to continued success,” said Dr. Jeffrey S. Akman, Interim Vice Provost for Health Affairs and Dean, School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
