Amy G. Hertz to Serve as Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to Dean of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Vice President for Health Affairs at GW

The George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) welcomes Amy G. Hertz, who will serve as the senior advisor and chief of staff to Jeffrey S. Akman, M.D., Walter A. Bloedorn Professor of Administrative Medicine, dean of SMHS, and vice president for health affairs at GW. Hertz comes to GW with more than three decades of public health policy formulation and national health management experience. She has served in numerous advisory and management roles at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Ms. Hertz’s extensive professional expertise and proven track record will be a significant asset to SMHS. I am delighted that she will be joining us” said Akman.

As the chief of staff and senior advisor to the dean and vice president for health affairs, Hertz will provide leadership and coordination to strengthen and expedite his vision and priorities for the SMHS.  She will work with Akman and SMHS senior management to advance those priorities with SMHS faculty, key administrators, donors, and trustees.

"I am very excited to join Dean Akman and the leadership team at the SMHS and am looking forward to supporting their work, addressing the SMHS top priorities,” said Hertz. 

Hertz will join the SMHS leadership team on Sept. 15, 2014.
