Research Interests

Dr. Raj's research interests include cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease, optimal blood pressure target for protection of kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, inflammation in chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular disease, and mechanism of muscle wasting in renal disease. He has ongoing clinical translational studies looking at modulating gut microbiome using designer pre-biotics and pro-biotics. Dr. Raj is the Principal investigator for the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) study ancillary project that explores the genetic basis for progression of renal and cardiovascular diseases. He is also the principal investigator for the Systolic Blood Pressure Interventional Trial (SPRINT) at the George Washington University site and two U01 clinical trial consortia: Novel interventions in CKD and Pilot Studies in CKD consortium.
