immune mechanisms that underlie urban minority childhood asthma, with a current focus on obesity-related asthma. Having shown that systemic inflammation associated with obesity-related asthma in children is non-atopic, and is influenced by metabolic abnormalities, the Rastogi lab is investigating a) the role of epigenetics in establishing the non-atopic immune patterns among obese children with asthma, b) the mechanisms by which metabolic abnormalities are associated with the non-atopic immune response and c) the mechanisms that link systemic non-atopic immune responses with airway disease.
