Performing a systematic review is a daunting process. To do it well requires the combined effort of a team of researchers able to devote a year or more of their time to the work. Many steps must be performed to ensure that the result represents an exhaustive search for all available evidence regarding the topic of interest. Fortunately, there are many available resources to aid teams undertaking a systematic review.
One of the most helpful resources available to would-be systematic reviewers at GW is access to the web-based computer software, Covidence. The Himmelfarb Library has purchased access to Covidence for students and faculty members at GW. Covidence is designed to streamline every step of the systematic review process. From gathering together references to facilitating effective article screening and data extraction, Covidence saves researchers many hours of labor compared to traditional means of performing a systematic review.
During this session, participants will look at how you can access the Himmelfarb Library’s subscription to create your own unlimited Covidence account. Then the presenter will explore the process of starting a new project, including the invitation of collaborators, the importation of article references, the performance of title/abstract and full-text screening, the extraction of data, and finally the quality analysis of selected articles. After this session, attendees will be able to access Covidence and use it to facilitate their systematic review projects.
