Evaluation

Uniform Clinical Evaluation

Description

The gastroenterology elective is designed to provide medical students with a well-rounded learning experience in gastroenterology and hepatology. There will exposure to diagnostic testing, endoscopy and interventional endoscopic procedures. There will be a variety of educational opportunities, including exposure to clinical consultations and didactic sessions which include clinical case review, inflammatory bowel disease grand rounds and gastroenterology pathology conference. Students will work closely with the gastroenterology faculty and fellows.

Course Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Practice basic skills in obtaining a history and performing a physical exam with emphasis on the gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary system.
  2. Identify common clinical presentations, evaluation and management of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and nutritional disorders.
  3. Recognize indications for appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests for gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and nutritional disorders.
