Description

This is an opportunity for students who are interested in gaining more exposure in primary care to further their clinical experience at an ambulatory care site serving adult, geriatric, and/or pediatric patients. Discuss with course director about preceptor placements. Note this is for outpatient in the DC region with GW faculty.

Course Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate appropriate history-taking and physical examination skills in the ambulatory care setting.
  2. Formulate medical problem assessments through accurate interpretation of history, physical, and laboratory, and/or radiographic findings.
  3. Utilize evidence-based medicine to develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and their family members.
  5. Demonstrate effective communication skills with members of the health care team.
  6. Demonstrate accurate and organized written documentation of care.
  7. Practice patient-centered approaches to disease prevention and chronic disease management.
