Description

A subspecialty radiology elective focusing on vascular and interventional radiology. The goals are to orient the student to vascular and interventional radiology and the variety of special procedures which are performed in this field. The student will take an active role in working up the patients, performing and following patients post-procedure. Where possible, students will have the opportunity to perform common inpatient imaging-guided procedures under direct supervision. Faculty includes: Drs. Daniel Scher, Shawn Sarin, and Karun Sharma.

Course Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Identify the types of procedures performed by the interventional radiologist.
  2. Describe the proper perioperative workup and management of patients undergoing imaging-guided procedures.
  3. Assess the indications and contraindications of commonly performed interventional procedures.
  4. Recognize the techniques of commonly performed inpatient imaging-guided procedures (and under certain circumstances perform these procedures under direct supervision).
