Welcome to the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences Dermatology Residency Program
Thank you for your interest in the Dermatology Residency Program at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences!
As the director of the program, it’s my goal to develop future dermatologists through our rigorous and supportive teaching environment, innovative research initiatives, and by example of excellence in patient care.
Our aim is to develop our residents’ interests in academic and investigative dermatology to enable them to pursue any and all career paths, to improve the standing and impact of our specialty, and provide the highest level of care to our community. Central to this mission is both the training of national and international medical and graduate students, and providing educational programming and leadership opportunities to practicing dermatologists and other physicians.
I truly appreciate your interest in being trained in dermatology at GW, and I hope you will spend some time exploring the program here on the website for more information.

A Unique Training Experience in Washington, D.C.
The residency training program at GW is designed to ensure that all trainees master the medical and surgical components of dermatology to allow them to deliver the highest-quality medical care to their patients. With its multi-cultural, worldly and socially diverse patient population, Washington, D.C. makes for an ideal environment in which to develop the skills necessary to thrive in any medical setting. Our curriculum provides comprehensive instruction and exposure in medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, pediatric dermatology, dermatopathology, consultative inpatient dermatology, and several subspecialty areas. Clinical training is matched with more than eight hours of clinical conferences and didactic lectures delivered weekly by our own faculty and faculty from our community.
Rotate at Renowned Health Care Institutions
Residents rotate through ambulatory clinics and in-patient consultation services at three different medical centers: George Washington Medical Faculty Associates and the George Washington University Hospital; the Washington DC VA Medical Center; and Children’s National Health System. This rotational system affords residents exposure to a broad spectrum of dermatologic patients and disease, and allows for continuity of care, as residents are scheduled and see their own follow-up patients during their rotation. Importantly, residents have the unique opportunity to interface with other dermatology residents from local training programs such as Howard University and Georgetown University Hospital/ Washington Hospital at the various sites.
We have a variety of specialty clinics and specialized rotations as well as inpatient consultation roations:
- Combined Dermatology-Rheumatology clinic
- Genital Dermatology clinic
- Patch testing clinic
- Mohs/Procedural dermatology clinic
- Resident cosmetic clinic
- Complex pediatric dermatology clinic
- Melanoma and Pigmented lesion clinic
- CTCL clinic
- Supportive Oncodermatology clinic
