Application Process

Overview

The George Washington University Department of Radiology participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to process and review applications from the candidate pool. We require a complete ERAS package, including:

  • Official USMLE scores (Step I required, include Step II if taken)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Dean's letter
  • Personal statement
  • Three or four letters of recommendation
  • A photograph

All information must be submitted through the ERAS online system. You may change or delete your file at any time during the process. Any new information you submit to ERAS overwrites the material previously submitted.

All positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We accept 4-5 residents per year. You must have completed a preliminary year of training at an ACGME-accredited institution.

Interview Day

Interviews are held October through mid-December in the Department of Radiology located on the first floor of the George Washington University Hospital (900 23rd Street, NW, Washington, DC). When you arrive at GW Hospital, you must show a photo ID and sign in to enter. Then, you can take the main lobby  stairs to the first floor; the elevators are also located behind the security desk. This will take you the Radiology check-in desk and waiting area on the first floor. Staff at the Radiology check-in desk can assist by directing you to our Radiology conference room, which is located at the end of the hallway to the left of the check-in desk.

Your interview day will begin at 7:45 am in the Radiology Conference Room (see directions above). Dr. Jocelyn Rapelyea, Residency Program Director, and/or Dr. Robert Zeman, Department Chairman, will welcome you with coffee and a continental breakfast. You will have the opportunity to learn about our program and ask any questions you may have. During the day, you will be interviewed by two faculty members and a current resident. Lunch will be served during our noon conference. Your day will also include a tour of our facilities by a current resident. You will have the opportunity to speak with current residents during lunch as well as during the tour. The interview day usually ends by 3:00 pm.
