The Department of Education approved federal financial aid for the GCATS program beginning with the 2015-2016 academic year. GCATS students who wish to apply for federal aid must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), federal Entrance Counseling, and appropriate MPNs on https://studentloans.gov, and GW’s Supplemental Graduate Loan Questionnaire available on the Office of Student Financial Assistance website. Complete application instructions are found on the Graduate Loan Questionnaire.

The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is available to GCATS students who meet federal eligibility requirements. The majority of students do qualify for the maximum Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan of $20,500. Those students who need additional money to finance their educational costs can apply for a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. Students who do not meet Federal Direct Loan requirements can apply for a private alternative loan.
