Mentorship and Preceptor Opportunities

The faculty from the program are highly engaged with students during the clinical year. Course directors monitor student performance, oversee assessment and evaluation, and conduct site visits during specific clinical clerkships. The clinical team consists of the Director of Clinical Education who provides administrative oversight for clinical affiliations and student assignments, along with a team of PA program faculty who provide mentoring, supervision, and academic evaluation. The role and responsibilities of clinical preceptors can be found here.

Clinical preceptors are vetted by the program and many have limited service faculty appointments to the School of Medicine and Health Sciences Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Clinical site profiles are updated and help to provide assurance that exposure to a wide variety of patients and clinical cases is provided to meet student and program goals. Ongoing evaluation of clinical faculty performance is provided through a variety of mechanisms, including student evaluation of the sites, faculty interactions, and overall student performance.

Please note that clinical precepting is a voluntary service. We do offer faculty appointments within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Department of Physician Assistant Studies and continuing medical education (CME) hours for eligible preceptors. Learn more about the benefits of clinical precepting, here.
