Welcome to the Department Homepage!

The Department of Pediatrics in the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all children through superior research, education, and outreach. Housed at Children’s National Health System (formerly, Children's National Medical Center), the department’s cutting-edge technology, innovative practices, and renowned physicians and researchers provide students and faculty with an unmatched environment to learn and grow.

The GW Department of Pediatrics offers a variety of training programs for third- and fourth-year medical students, including a clerkship and programs for visiting and international students. Also a coveted residency destination, the department hosts more than 80 residents and more than 100 fellows and graduate trainees each year. With a location at Children’s National — the only exclusive provider of pediatric care in the metropolitan Washington area — the GW Department of Pediatrics fosters hands-on learning and exposure to pioneering research.
