Panel of SMHS medical experts addressed topics in healthy aging as part of the Frontiers in Medicine lecture series, Dec. 12.

SMHS is pleased to announce that Alison Ehrlich, M.D. ’96, M.H.S., clinical professor of dermatology and director of dermatology clinical research, has been named the new chair of the department of dermatology at GW SMHS and The GW Medical Faculty Associates.

Edward De Fabo, M.D., emeritus professor, was featured in the Daily Mail as the lead researcher of a new study that was published in Nature Communications, titled "Melanoma induction by ultraviolet A but not ultraviolet B radiation requires melanin pigment."

A new study conducted by GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) researchers Edward C. De Fabo, Ph.D., Frances P. Noonan, Ph.D., and Anastas Popratiloff, M.D., Ph.D., has been published in the journal Nature Communications.

GW Researchers collaborated to make an unanticipated discovery in mice that interferon-gamma, a type of protein primarily used by the immune system for intercellular communication, acts as a promoter for the deadly form of skin cancer known as melanoma.

As less invasive cosmetic treatments such as Botox come within financial reach for an increasing number of patients, concerns are growing about who is performing these procedures and whether they are being done safely.
