The White Coat Initiative was established in 2001 by a GW alumnus who wanted to create a lifelong connection between GW medical students and GW medical alumni.

The gift of a white coat and support of other activities throughout their four years reminds students every day that the quality of their education and experience in medical school depends on the contributions of those who preceded them.

This past year, with your support, the White Coat Initiative sponsored many activities that benefitted GW medical students. Among the highlights are:

• White coats for first-year medical students as they start their careers


• Supplies for first and second-year students for Community Service Day


• Lunch for POM 3 (Practice of Medicine, third-year) during a day-long session of student/alumni conversations about various practice areas


• Special gift for graduates to welcome them into the alumni family
