Diversity in Admissions

The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences believes a well-rounded and inclusive community of students enhances the educational experience and advances our mission of creating physicians able to improve the health and well-being of our local, national and global communities. The Committee on Admissions also seeks a diversity of varied attributes such as the rich breadth of human experiences, talents and unique traits in our class each year.

Recruitment

We promote diversity by recruiting students who appreciate and learn from each other’s differences and broad range of experiences and backgrounds. For more details, visit the SMHS Policy on Diversity and Inclusion.

Partnerships

The Office of Admissions has partnered with Morgan State University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University, to encourage interest in medicine and the health sciences through formal and informal recruiting events, advising support, and ongoing communication between university leaders.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion serves DC high school students through the DC HAPP and Upward Bound programs.

Programs

Early Selection program agreements with North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (HBCU) and Morgan State University (HBCU) allow select undergraduate sophomores to explore other areas of interest and experiences during their undergraduate academic careers.

The METEOR Program matches select matriculating students with mentors specializing in clinical or translational research. This is a research fellowship opportunity with a stipend to allow students to engage in research for two summers at GW and complete the Clinical and Translational Research Scholarly Concentration requirements.

The Summer Prematriculation Program for select matriculating students the Committee on Admissions believes will benefit, provides exposure to preclinical content to ease the transition to the M.D. Program curriculum.
