GW Faculty Members Honored by the American Medical Student Association as Women Leaders in Medicine

WASHINGTON (March 22, 2013) – On March 14, 2013, three faculty members at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences were honored at the sixth annual American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Women Leaders in Medicine Awards.

Katherine Chretien, M.D., associate professor of medicine; Carolyn Clancy, M.D., associate clinical professor of medicine; and Laura Tosi, M.D., associate professor of orthopedic surgery, were among five distinguished women who demonstrated leadership and commitment to the field of medicine.  

"It is exciting to be in the presence of so many amazing women," says Lexi Light, chair of AMSA’s Gender and Sexuality Action Committee. "They have committed themselves to education, social justice and civic engagement. We are honored to recognize their achievements by presenting them with the AMSA Women Leaders in Medicine Award."

Sophie Currier, M.D., Academic Foundation Programme at Cambridge University and Petra Clark-Dufner, CT Area Health Education Center Program, University of Connecticut School of Medicine were also recognized for their contributions.

The award ceremony and reception took place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., and was held in conjunction with the American Medical Student Association’s Annual Convention & Exposition.
