The GW Lupus Study

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system becomes over active and attacks normal healthy tissues.


  • Can affect any organ of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.
  • Affects women more than men
  • Is more common in African Americans

The cause of Lupus is not known and there is currently no cure.
