Body Imaging

GW residents rotate through Body Imaging throughout their four years. This high-volume and fast-paced division covers all ER and inpatient studies as well as many outpatient imaging studies. Moreover, the division has a strong working relationship with the various inpatient services.

Residents are given graduated responsibility in study protocol and interpretation, as well as performance of CT and ultrasound-guided procedures, in which residents play a central role, including triage, consent and follow-up.

The service begins at 7 a.m. with a morning readout involving an attending physician, the overnight resident, and an incoming resident. Overnight ER studies are reviewed and the overnight resident is offered direct feedback on his/her interpretation. There are several weekly Body Imaging conferences, including informal resident-run case conferences and multidisciplinary conferences.
