Awards, Recognition, and Promotions
Congratulations to Howard Straker, M.P.H., PA-C, assistant professor of physician assistant studies and of prevention and community health at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), who was elected to a second term as secretary of the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA). Also, congratulations to Lisa Mustone Alexander, Ed.D. '03, M.P.H. '89, PA-C '79, professor of physician assistant studies at GW SMHS, upon being elected president of the PAEA. Both Straker and Alexander were elected at the PAEA Educational Forum held recently in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mary Corcoran, Ph.D., associate dean for faculty development for health sciences, and professor of clinical research and leadership, presented the 2016 Cel Hamant Lecture sponsored by the Department of Occupational Therapy at the Indiana University School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences April 22, 2016. Corcoran, and Indiana University Occupational Therapy alumna, spoke at her alma mater addressing “What Every Occupational Therapist Should Know About Translational Health Science.”
Adam Friedman, M.D., associate professor of dermatology, received the 2016 Teacher of the Year Award from the SMHS Department of Dermatology.
Sally A. Moody, Ph.D., interim chair of the Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology and professor of anatomy and regenerative biology at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, who was elected to a two-year term as vice president, and later president, of the Society for Craniofacial Genetics and Developmental Biology.
Shabnam Shahabadi, M.D. '03, B.A. '99, clinical instructor of physician assistant studies and of dermatology, was awarded the 2016 Volunteer Teacher of the Year Award from the SMSH Department of Dermatology.
