Salary & Benefits

Salary:

See our Graduate Medical Education website for the most up-to-date salary information. The salary is typically increased annually to reflect cost-of-living adjustments.

Vacation:

Interns and residents receive four weeks of vacation (including Christmas or New Years week).

Insurance:

Medical, disability, and professional liability insurance is provided by the University.

Parking:

Free parking is available for houseofficers at all sites. At GW, the garage is located right in downtown DC, about a block from the clinic and the hospital. Residents who choose to take Metro can have fares deducted directly from their paycheck with pre-tax dollars.

Food:

Lunch is provided at nearly every noon conference (except Grand Rounds).

Loan Forgiveness:

As an employee of The George Washington University (which is a 501c3 organization), time spent as a resident at GWU can count towards the Public Loan Forgiveness Program through Direct Loans.

Fitness Center:

Discounted annual membership for the GWU Lerner Health and Wellness Center can be paid through payroll deduction.

Uniforms:

Two personalized white coats are provided to each intern. One coat is provided to each resident each subsequent year. Free dry cleaning of white coats is provided.

TuitionĀ Benefits:

Tuition benefits at GW are available for houseofficers and their dependents.

Retirement:

Residents have access to a 403(b) account, with a university matching program after two years' employment.

Childcare:

Residents are eligible for a discounted daycare program.
