Summer Immersion Program

The George Washington University’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Sciences program will be holding the 3rd Annual Laboratory Sciences Summer Immersion Program in 2019. This intensive program will be offered in two sessions. Students will be asked to select their session choice on the application.

Program Structure

Subsequently, the overall goal for this program is to expose students, with limited laboratory experience, to the skills necessary to pursue careers in biomedical sciences. In this program, students students will obtain theoretical and hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Laboratory safety
  • Essential laboratory skills and techniques
  • Disease case studies
  • Diagnostic techniques
  • Molecular technologies, such as:
    • Agarose gel electrophoresis
    • Polymerase chain reaction
    • Recombinant DNA and cloning
    • DNA sequence analysis

I loved doing all of the experiments and learning about the different tests and methods that doctors often use at the hospital. Program Details

Dates: Session One: July 8th- July 12th

            Session Two: July 22nd – July 26th 

Time: 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Location: The George Washington University’s Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC) -Discovery Hall

Fee: $250.00 per person (fee includes lab supplies and materials)

  • If accepted into the MLS Summer Immersion, the applicant will be provided an acceptance letter outlining information on how to submit a non- refundable registration fee of $250.00 via credit card.

Additional Details

Liability waivers must be submitted in order to participate in the program. 

Students will receive a certificate of completion that can be listed on resumes, college applications, or for volunteer hours.
