Dr. Sidney W. Fu’s lab is focused on the discovery and validation of biomarkers for early detection and treatment of cancer, including breast, esophageal, gastric, melanoma and other cancers. The group has a long standing interest in the role of non-coding RNAs, including miRNAs, lncRNAs, siRNAs, etc. in tumor initiation and progression so that early effective preventive and therapeutic regimes can be developed.
With the support of the Gynecologic Cancer Research Foundation (GCRF), The team is also working on the biomarker discovery and valdaition for Lichen Sclerosus, a chronic skin disorder that most commonly affects post-menopausal women.
In collaboration with Dr. Lijie (Grace) Zhang’s lab at GW’s Institute for Biomedical Engineering, they are developing a biomimetic nanostructured tissue engineered bone model for in vitro breast cancer metastasis study.
