Applying for...

MD Program Federal Loans Only
  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.ed.gov.
  2. Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form - see forms page.

An award notification will be provided to you via email after these materials have been submitted and reviewed.

Once You Have Received Your Award Notification, Accept Your Award:

  1. Go to GWeb
  2. Financial Aid tab
  3. My Award Information tab
  4. Award by Aid Year, select 2021-2022
  5. Award Overview tab
  6. Accept Award Offer tab to accept or decline each of the awards listed

Note: You may reduce the amounts offered by using the drop-down box. Your responses will be recorded in real-time.

If you accept any Federal Direct Loans, additional requirements will appear at the bottom left of the screen. Click on any one, you will be taken to the student loans website where you can "Sign Master Promissory Note", and complete your loan "Entrance Counseling" requirements. You will be required to enter your FSA ID and Password to "Sign In" to this site. You may also visit studentaid.gov to complete these requirements.

Please note that financial aid awards may be modified based upon new information related to your financial circumstances and your financial need, as well as changes in enrollment status and receipt of outside scholarships and/or loans.

Disbursement of Awarded and Accepted Funds:

Financial aid award funds are disbursed to your GW student account at the beginning of each semester. If the awards you have accepted exceed the amount owed on the GW Student Account eBill system, you will receive a refund to assist with external educational expenses, such as books, housing, meals, etc.

You should access and set up to receive an e-refund (direct refund deposit to your bank account) through GWeb by signing in and clicking "Student Records and Registration," then "Student Accounts Menu," then "Student Account eBill," then "Create a Refund Profile" and "Payment Profile." Please take the time to review the system, enter your bank account information, and sign up.

Required One-on-One Counseling:

All incoming students who will receive financial aid are required to attend a one-on-one counseling session with a financial aid counselor. Incoming students may schedule a meeting, generally lasting 30 minutes, between the second week of July and the last day of classes in the fall semester of their first year. Students should make an appointment by contacting the Office of Financial Aid at medfinan@gwu.edu or 202-994-2960. 

MD Program Need-Based Scholarships and Loans, Deadline August 5, 2021 
  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at: studentaid.ed.gov
    You, your spouse (if married), and your parents (natural or adoptive) must complete the FAFSA.
    If your parents are divorced, one will complete the FAFSA and the other will complete a PDF paper copy of the FAFSA.
  2. Complete the GW MD Program Financial Aid Request Form - see Forms page.
  3. Complete the GW MD Program Need-Based Aid Application with your parents’ information.
    If your parents are divorced, the parent who completed the paper FAFSA will submit the Non-Custodial Parent Statement.
  4. You, your spouse (if married), and your parents must submit copies of all 2019 IRS tax returns, W-2s (or 1099s), and all tax schedules.
    If you or your parents did not file a tax return for the 2019 tax year please submit a statement of non-filing.
  5. If you have siblings enrolled in college at least half-time in the fall of 2021, by October 1, 2021, you must submit the Sibling Enrollment Verification Form(s) to our office.
    Failure to do so will result in the recalculation of your need-based aid award.

Students who have not submitted all application materials to be considered for need-based aid by August 5, 2021, will be packaged with federal direct loans only.
