GW MD Program Institutional Aid Award Policy

POLICY FOR INSTITUTIONAL AID GRANTS FOR FIRST-TIME AND RETURNING FINANCIAL AID APPLICANTS AT GW SMHS MD PROGRAM

The SMHS Office of Financial Aid requires all students interested in being considered for institutional aid to complete the FAFSA and provide parental information on the MD Program Need-Based Aid Application. We also require copies of the student’s, spouse's, and parents' 2022 Federal tax returns including all schedules and W-2s. Additionally, we may request other necessary documentation to process aid.

The SMHS Office of Financial Aid grants institutional aid to the neediest students, while taking into consideration any other scholarship or outside resources that a student is receiving. Students who demonstrate eligibility for the institutional aid after borrowing at least $20,500 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans will be considered for this grant. Once all documentation has been received and the file is complete, a final determination of the student's eligibility is made using the institutional aid packaging formula. (This packaging formula is reviewed and approved annually by the Financial Aid Advisory Committee [FAAC].) Students who fail to report outside resources will have an adjustment made to their financial aid package in the subsequent year.

The priority consideration deadline for incoming students is April 2, 2024. The priority consideration deadline for returning students is May 1, 2024. Students who have not submitted their completed applications for financial aid by these deadlines may receive a reduced need-based aid offer. Students who have not submitted all application materials to be considered for need-based aid by August 5, 2024, will be packaged with federal direct loans only.

A student can receive institutional grant consideration only once per class year as a student at the George Washington University MD Program.

*2022 PARENTAL DATA (FROM BOTH NATURAL OR ADOPTIVE PARENTS) MUST BE INCLUDED ON THE NEED BASED AID FORM. (BOTH NATURAL OR ADOPTIVE PARENTS MUST SUBMIT A 2022 FEDERAL TAX RETURN INCLUDING ALL SCHEDULES AND W-2s TO BE CONSIDERED.) THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ON THE RENEWAL/FAFSA APPLICATION AND TAX RETURNS WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE STUDENT'S ELIGIBILITY FOR GW MD PROGRAM INSTITUTIONAL FUNDS.
