2017 Community Service Day

Bread For the City - City Orchard

On the beautiful sunny day of July 26th, our residents and (even some attendings) joined other volunteers to get down and dirty to give back to our community, on our GW EM Annual Service Day!

The Bread For the City's City Orchard, located in Beltsville, MD, is a wonderful place to learn about farming and help fight food injustice in our area. Many people in DC face great challenges both accessing and affording fresh produce on a daily basis. To help fill this need, the Orchard distributes the fresh fruits and vegetables to nearly 9,000 District residents and families each month.

The GW Emergency Medicine team picked, packaged, pruned, and weeded all morning long, while learning more about Bread for the City and it's accepting, respectful and caring community. It was a fun and active way for the Community Engagement Committee to fulfill its mission of helping those around us and the patients we serve. Stay tuned for more!
