GW COVID-19 Testing Options
Change of Venue for COVID-19 Testing and Regular Hours Resume
Due to the current heat wave, and to ensure the safety of our patients and providers, we have moved the GW MFA's COVID-19 testing to the Smith Center, located at 600 22nd St NW, Washington, DC 20052 – at the G Street Entrance – beginning on July 22, 2020. Please see the updated schedule and operational updates listed below:
- Regular Testing Hours will resume on 7.22.2020 - Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, until further notice.
- Patients with a provider order and GW health care workers are welcome.
- General walk-in patients are also welcome.
If you need an evaluation, please contact your healthcare provider, visit one of our GW Immediate & Primary Care Sites (gwdocsipc.com), or call 202-677-MED3 (6333) to schedule a Virtual Health Visit.
If you are having symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat or new loss of taste or smell), it is important that you self-quarantine at home until you are able to get a COVID-19 test with a negative result and have clearance from your health care provider.
As always, even if you are not having symptoms, please remember to wear a mask at all times around other people, maintain 6 feet of physical distancing and use good hand hygiene. Please be safe and stay healthy.
Please note that drive-thru testing is not currently being offered.
If your GW healthcare provider has ordered this test.
Please bring a photo ID and insurance card with you and inform the registration staff that you are a GW patient whose provider has ordered a COVID-19 test.
If your non-GW healthcare provider has ordered this test
Please bring a photo ID, insurance card, and copy of the provider’s order for the COVID-19 test. The order will need to include your provider’s LabCorp account number to help make sure that the results are sent back to your provider.
If you do not have an order, but want to be tested
Please bring your photo ID and insurance card with you. You can expect to be evaluated by a qualified GW healthcare provider who may order the COVID-19 test for you. Note that the evaluation by a GW healthcare provider is required in order to receive an order for testing and that this is a billable visit.
Results are currently taking approximately 7 days (and sometimes longer) for most patients, though result times vary based on laboratory capacity.
Results from testing will be sent to the healthcare provider who ordered the tests. Patients should wait to be contacted with results or contact the healthcare provider who ordered the test if they are seeking results.
The entrance of the Smith Center, where COVID-19 Testing will take place, is at the corner of 22nd Street and G Street, NW.
- Take the Orange, Silver or Blue line to the Foggy Bottom-GWU Station
