COVID-19 Testing

GW COVID-19 Testing

**If you are seeking pre-procedural testing for GW Hospital, please go to the GW Hospital (900 23rd St NW, Washington, DC 20037) and proceed to pre-admission testing.

We have fortunately seen decreased COVID-19 cases in the DC area, and decreased need for testing. The GW MFA continues to offer COVID-19 testing but, as of Thursday, May 6, the GW MFA COVID-19 testing center located at The Lerner Health and Wellness Center on GW's campus has been CLOSED. Patients will no longer be able to get a COVID test at this location. However, if you are symptomatic, traveling, or need a COVID-19 test for another reason, you can get a COVID test at one of our GW Immediate & Primary Care locations listed below. No appointment is required. Please see the hours of availability below:

  • GW IPC McPherson Square - 1101 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005
COVID-19 Tests and Antibody Tests are available Monday to Saturday, 11am to 2pm ONLY
  • GW IPC Cleveland Park - 2902 Porter Street, NW, Washington, DC 20008
COVID-19 Tests and Antibody Tests are available 7 days a week, 12pm to 2pm ONLY
  • GW IPC Rhode Island Avenue - 2350 Washington Place, NE, Suite 110N, Washington, DC 20018
COVID-19 Tests and Antibody Tests are available 7 days a week, 12pm to 2pm ONLY

If you are having symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat or new loss of taste or smell), it is important that you self-quarantine at home until you are able to get a COVID-19 test with a negative result and have clearance from your health care provider.

As always, even if you are not having symptoms, please remember to wear a mask at all times around other people, maintain 6 feet of physical distancing and use good hand hygiene.  Please be safe and stay healthy.

For Healthcare Providers   For Patients

Instructions for Patients

If your GW healthcare provider has ordered this test.

Please bring a photo ID and insurance card with you and inform the registration staff that you are a GW patient whose provider has ordered a COVID-19 test. Your provider will share results with you.

If your non-GW healthcare provider has ordered this test

Please bring a photo ID, insurance card, and copy of the provider’s order for the COVID-19 test. The order will need to include your provider’s LabCorp account number to help make sure that the results are sent back to your provider. Your ordering provider will share results with you.

If you do not have an order, but want to be tested

Please bring your photo ID and insurance card with you. You can expect to be evaluated by a qualified GW healthcare provider who may order the COVID-19 test for you. Note that the evaluation by a GW healthcare provider is required in order to receive an order for testing and that this is a billable visit. The self-pay fee is $150.

Test Results

  • Results are currently taking approximately 3-5 days (and sometimes longer) for most patients, though result times vary based on laboratory capacity. We use PCR testing via LabCorp.

  • Results from testing will be sent to the healthcare provider who ordered the tests. Patients should sign up for the "Follow My Health" portal to get results soonest. We will always call you with a positive result, however, negative results can be abtained fastest through the portal.
