Web Conferencing

GW has three web conferencing tools available: Zoom, Webex, and Blackboard Collaborate. For a details and comparison of tools, please view the Web Conferencing Tools page.   

Creating/Updating Course Websites

Blackboard is the course management system used at GWU. Blackboard sites can house course materials (handouts, readings, slides), course syllabi, manuals, group listings, links to session recordings, discussion boards and/or blogs for student/instructor communication, and much more.

Tools to Support Active Learning

PollEverywhere

PollEverywhere is an audience response system licensed by GW's School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

PollEverywhere provides SMHS faculty with multiple question types including multiple choice, word cloud, clickable image, and open-ended questions.  Functionality is also available for Q&A which allows users to respond and then upvote or downvote submitted responses, and competition which also the instructor to create a series of questions and let participants compete to answer fastest.

VoiceThread

VoiceThread is a platform for creating rich, asynchronous conversations around media like images, documents, presentations, and videos. Students and instructors can comment on the posted media content using text, audio, or video.

Articulate 360

Articulate 360 is a full-featured development suite for e-Learning modules.  This software has been purchased by both the CFE and the IMPACT team for developing interactive projects.  Please reach out to either CFE or the IMPACT team for a consultation if you are interested in creating interactive, branched, or multimedia modules.  

Mural

MURAL is a digital workspace for visual collaboration, where everyone can do their best work together.

FlipGrid/Flip

Flip (formerly Flipgrid) is a video-based group discussion and video-sharing app, free from Microsoft, built for classrooms and beyond.

Surveys, Evaluations, and Exams

Examplify

The School of Medicine and Health Sciences MD and PA programs administer exams and quizzes using a secure, internet-based exam management software called Examplify.  Examplify is a high-stakes assessment program developed and licensed by ExamSoft, an internet-based exam delivery system.  Examplify enables exam takers to securely take examinations downloaded to their iPads or personal computers by blocking access to files, programs, and the Internet during an exam. 

Faculty who are interested in setting up exams in Examplify or would like to request an Examplify account should contact Kathleen Kline at kgkline@gwu.edu (MD Program) or Katherine Sanchez, kssanchez@gwu.edu (PA Program).

Qualtrics

Qualtrics is the primary survey tool used to collect data for program evaluation for the MD program. However, it has functions and capabilities outside of this scope that may be of value to faculty. To find out more about how you can use Qualtrics for research please visit the link below.

Qualtrics offers an excellent library of short, easy-to-follow training videos on building surveys, distributing surveys, and analyzing your data.  Additionally, they offer webinars which are recorded and posted to the Qualtrics Support page. Google Forms and Microsoft Forms

Google Drive and Microsoft Office 365 both have online form-creation tools.  These tools are available to anyone with a GW Net ID login.

Using Durable Links

A durable link is a link that will consistently deliver access to an e-journal or e-book regardless of whether the user is on or off campus. Durable links connect students to required and recommended readings and do not require faculty to obtain copyright permission.

Adobe Creative Suite

Adobe CC includes 20 desktop and mobile applications for design, photography, video, and web, including such powerful creative tools as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Premier Pro, and more. Full-time Faculty and Staff can access Acrobat Pro. The full Creative Cloud licenses are provided to many of the GWU's shared computing devices in classrooms and labs
